If your Case has the large 10mm Cylinder Head Studs you should check to see if Case Savers are needed when you tear down the Motor.

After pulling the Valve Covers and Rocker Arms, get your torque wrench and start checking the Studs in the following manner.

One by One loosen the head nuts and then Retorque to 45'/50' #.
If the stud pulls or strips out it will not hold the head torque when the new motor is up and running and we need to know now not after 500 miles.

OK if the stud holds the 45'/50'# with out pulling then back off the torque to 20' # and proceed to the next Head Stud.

If all head studs hold the 45' to 50' lbs. then your in luck and you don't require Case Savers.

The above is a very important step on tear down.

If you are building an 1835cc or larger motor the above step is not necessary as you will install special case savers before the case is machined.

On Big motors it's wise to install case savers now to save time and money later on.

Case Savers come in a verity of sizes for both the 8mm & 10mm cylinder studs.

All case savers should be installed below the case surface metal.
The Cylinder Base Must sit on the Case not the Case Saver.

The case savers must be installed in the exact location and perfectly straight.

Don't try to drill and tap for case savers without a case saver jig.

We normally recommend a Special Small Diameter (CS-92) ck  saver for 10mm cylinder studs on Performance Motors.

If the outside tip of the threads brake through the case when you cut for oversize cylinders, it will be time to purchase a new case. For this reason we recommend always installing the special small O.D. 10mm case savers, just in case you might decide to build a large bore motor in the future.

(Note when using 94mm Cylinders you will need to stay with the stock 8mm Savers.)

If compression is raised when using 94s you will need the Special Chromoly Studs.

Be sure the top #3 cylinder case saver next to the Flywheel is "Deep Sunk".

This means the Saver is installed deeper then normal to get support from the main bearing saddle.
