Question:--->  I have read and tried everyone's suggestions in articles on tuning, timing, idle, etc. and I cannot seem to get my Ghia to stop stalling after warming it up for 2-3 minutes. Once the car is  warmed up (Approx. 5 miles down the road, it idles at about 850-900 RPMs.
Could my fuel pump be causing a problem. I have one of those  cheap Brazilian fuel pumps. Also, instead of an idle cut off valve with the electrical hook-up, I have a idle jet that someone said would work fine, since the cut off valve only prevents run on after  shutting down the engine

Answer:--->  The Idle cut off on DP carbs keeps it running when it's working and will let it die if defective. You can check it out by turning on the key and pulling the hot wire off the solenoid, then touch the hot wire to the terminal 7 or 8 times and listen for the click. If it clicks each time then no need to replace it. The Idle cut off on single port motors can be replaced with the older style Idle jet.  # 113129415D.  If sounds like your motor dies as soon as the choke goes off,  if so be sure to ck for air leaks as described in page -> ck  Another thing to check is the distributors advance & retard. Make sure it's working smoothly ( check this with a timing light by running the RPM up & down slowly)  You can check the fuel pump by removing the fuel line from the carb and after pulling the coil wire have some one turn the engine over, it should squirt fuel out 3 to 5 feet, (have a fire extinguisher handy just in case) if the fuel pump only pushes the fuel out 6 to 12 inches then the pump is bad or you have a restriction in the fuel line or tank. You can check the fuel flow by siphoning several gallons of fuel from the carb fuel line, if the stream of fuel slows down after several gallons then it's time to check the vent, cap or the screen in the bottom of the tank. We had some bad points that would loose all spring tension after 4 or 5 minutes and then be ok once they cooled down. We thought for sure it was a fuel related problem so don't run out and buy new parts until you check out the old ones. Have fun and let us know what the problem was.    Vic.
