Question---> Need help on Setting Valves on my 40 HP 1961 VW. Are they set at .006 like the 1600cc motors. ??.

Answer---> That depends on if you have the stock Long rocker studs or the Short Studs. (the ones that hold down the rocker assembly.) If it has the long studs then the valves are set at .008" but if the studs have been changed to the shorter ones then the valves are set the same .006 as the 1600cc motor. You can check if you have the long rocker studs by looking between the outer push rod tubes up next to the head. You will have to crawl under the car, but this is the only way to make sure the valves are set correctly. If your motor still has the long studs, it would be a good idea to install the short stud kit. If you have an after market cam always go by the cam cards recommended settings.
