Answer---> Keep in mind that you need just enough clutch to hold the power of your motor and not a whole lot more.
So it depends on the motor, the car and the driver. The stock clutch, in good shape will do fine for a stock 1600cc motor in a stock car.
You can check your Pressure Plate by setting it on the floor and applying pressure to the fingers (standing on it)
A good stock P.P. will hold about 190#/220#. And this will hold a mild 1835cc motor in a stock car. A good running 1835cc in a buggy will probably need a little more clutch. If you put in a clutch with to much holding power it can cost you big bucks. Burn out on gravel and hit a patch of soft asphalt and the tires might really hook up fast,
something like a Buggy leaving the ground at 30 mph can have the tires doing 60 when it comes down, if you don't get off the gas fast enough. Those tires must instantly return to 30 mph when the tires get planted hard. Now something has to give, either the clutch slips a little or the tooth on 2ed gear gives a little. Since the clutch is made to slip and a gear tooth is not, you can see your choice makes a difference. |
